CHAKVETADZE MARCHES THROUGH
Anna Chakvetadze further boosted Russia's hopes at the French Open with victory over Nuria Llagostera Vives in the first round on Wednesday.
However the highly-rated sixth seed was made to work hard by the plucky Spanish woman on her way to a 6-3 5-7 6-1 win.
It started comfortably enough for Chakvetadze as she broke twice in a successful opening set but an alarming 35 unforced errors in the second helped her opponent level the match.
The 21-year-old, who was a quarter-finalist here last year, got her act together in the third set and proved what she's capable of by brushing aside Vives in just 30 minutes to advance to the second round.
